First topic message reminder :

Trying again. My first post went spinning off the tracks like a runaway train. Bad Karma? hope not, but maybe two first posts will show up.

I'm John from Ontario. I am going to try a daily greeting thread with this board and see how it goes. Very low key, but sincere, no groundbreaking PD news, just heartfelt encouragement.

My Wife and I drove to Ottawa on the weekend. (250 kms there) Strange city, driving, and restaraunts bring out tremors. We had a great time: visited, had dinners, walked, did museums with my son and wife who live there. Saturday nite we went to an "Irish Pub" and I had a yummy shepherds pie and a bottle of Killkenny. Your beer makes our beer taste like soda pop.

I hope everybody has a good and safe day. Be strong, John

Brilliant Katie. That's wonderful news on all counts. So pleased about the insurance battle. Hope you are sleeping better now. It was a very stressful and totally unnecessary battle but you came through girl! Now you are officially incapacitated by Mr P, you should be automatically entitled to whatever is on offer? Sadly, all benefits are subject to means testing here. Cant get my head round that. In uk, all benefits for disability are not means tested but are targeted at the degree of disability. I may be wrong but it seems to me that the benefit system here needs to be overhauled . It may help to cut the deficit .although I'm not suggesting that people on benefits are responsible for it. We all know who the real culprits are! Pd is a progressive condition so no matter where we are on the continuum ,no one with Pd should be excluded. There, I've had my rant for today. Would be interested to know how people have got on when applying for benefits. As things stand, don't think I can face the paperwork. Anybody else feel like this?

Congrats again Katie. How about a poem to mark your victory?

love Marie x

Hi you girls and guys

Hope you are all keeping good. My thoughts and payers will be with lucy and I hope things will go well for her.

Marie, you are spot on. I'v been a bit silent lately, what with my birthday 30'th (well 60'th, but whose counting), my wedding anniversary and a little victory against a certain Insurance company. I have been busy.

Its like the middle of winter here today, wind howling, rain and very cold. I hope the weather is kinder to you in other parts.
Take care
Katie Smile

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a good weekend. Lucy should just be arriving at the hospital so everything crossed that she will be a suitable candidate. Jb your depiction of the 'closed eyes' test was hilarious. I'm still laughing just thinking about it. Never had that test ..YET.... but will be well ready for it.

A little birdy tells me that one of us has recently celebrated a significant birthday!!! That person is obviously very shy so I hope they don't mind me wishing them a very special happy birthday on the forum.

Bit difficult to keep up with everyone, now we have so many new members but have noticed that you've been a bit quiet of late Patsy. Hope you're ok and not gone into hibernation.? Would be good t hear how you are.

Big thank you to Ems for keeping that chat room open every night. It's a labour of love dealing with some of the housemates!! All your hard work has certainly paid off Ems so thanks again.

Here's hoping for a good week ahead ( health and weather wise ) for all of us

Marie

Hi All,

I've been kind of quiet lately - nothing wrong, just very busy between work and trying to keep a crumbling house fit for human habitation. I must be doing something right because my housemates are still with me...on second thought, they are dogs, nevermind. What a Face

I really just wanted to post a quick message for Lucy.

You can be sure that all of your freinds here are sending all positive thoughts for your trip to Bristol. I hope that you aren't too nervous about having to go off yur meds for a while, but surely it will be worth the inconvenience in the end. Best wishes Lucy, can't wait to hear how it went.

Hi Lucy

I want to wish you the very best of luck with your assessment and I hope everything goes well for you. I'll be thinking of you and I'll a little prayer for you.

Look forward to hearing all about it when you come back.

You'll do fine, they're lovely over there. I went in March 2010 and it was grand. They're extremely helpful and caring and really knowledgeable about Mr. P.

Lucy, It would be a grand thing, bring your kids and everybody. I have a chair beside the woodstove, that keeps the room at 90 F, with your name on it. Another rocking chair for Emma`and a couch for the rest of you to settle into and watch the snow fall. Hot chocolate and Bailey's Irish cream will be served on demand and breakfast will be pancakes and maple syrup.
Maybe I could get you bundled up and we can toboggan ride down the hills and then go for a ride on my snowmobile to get more firewood. Yes, that would be fun. Very Happy

Hi Ems

Its hard to know whether or not this winter will be as bad as last year, which was a nightmare. Met Eireann say they can't predict that far ahead, but the general opinion seems to be that it will be another tough one.
I don't look forward to another Christmas Day with no water!
We were like beggars last year travelling the roads with our bottles and containers, trying the neighbours for water.
Then, when the thaw started our pipes burst and poured down through the light fittings in two rooms!!

Its actually very warm down here atm.

I will surely let you know when I'm running away!

Hi jb49

I'm glad you had such an enjoyable Thanksgiving and that the weather was so good. Sounds like ye all had a lot of fun.

What a lovely idea, going for a break to your part of the world.
I've always intended going on one of those tours when Autumn comes and the leaves start turning. It must be spectacular.
Sign me up for the wine tasting on Prince Edward county!

Take care of yourself

Hi Everyone,

It was a beautiful Thanksgiving Weekend here in Ontario. 3` days of sunshine and temps around 28. We had dinner at my Sisters yesterday, next farm over, and she fed 38 people and again at supper. It was potluck but she cooked 2 turkeys and hams. Uuuum good! Hope everyone had a good weekend but mine would of been hard to beat. The leaves are just turning now and if you guys all come in about two weeks I will pick you up in Toronto, we will see The CN tower and catch a theatre show and see the Royal Ontario Museum. A quick day trip to Niagara Falls, and the Casino. Back to my house for country relaxing and then to Ottawa to see the Parliament Buildings, Royal Mint, an Irish Pub, and Sparks Street Mall for shopping. Back to the farm, anda day trip to Prince Edward County for a wine tour. , Rest for a day, gather up and back to Toronto for your flight home. Yippee Skippee! I have beds for 6, my sister and neighbour would lodge another 10. So what are you waiting for?

It could be done with some planning sometime couldn't it?

Hi Cathy

Our paths have'nt crossed before but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you are not feeling so good right now. All of have bad times, I go into my shell like a snail when I'm feeling low, what brings me up again is the knowledge that out there are others in this same boat, always there and willing to help and support. The forum is a lifeline for so many of us. I hope so much that you will feel better soon.

Hi Cathy,

I thought before I logged in that we haven't heard from Cathy much of late. So it's good to see your name and hear from you, even if you don't feel so good right now. We can't be sad all the time, nor do we have to be happy always. One thing that upsets me is when I start thinking that everyone else is having a better life than I am. So, just that you know, I too have days that nothing works right and I feel defeated. I suspect we all do. All we can do is hope that tomorrow is better. Remember that all we can do is try our best and don't get hung up on our shortcomings. Our thoughts are with you Cathy, I hope you feel sun in your heart again real soon. jb

Cathy: I am sorry you feel down. I know facing into the winter is enough to make me want to bury myself under the bedclothes and stay there - hibernating.

Can I add something else? After I had DBS and the dust settled and all the congratulations were done, a sense of anti-climax hit me. I took a while to clear and I tried to keep myself busy, which didn't always work. ahovever the following summer it all went away.

I probably haven't helped at all, but hang in there, and keep writing.

Ann
