We will have neurologist Dr. Dan Healy, Beaumont Hospital, speakingon "Looking after Parkinson's disease", geriatrician Dr. Clare Fallon, Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, on "Wearing off- Identifying the Signs and Symptoms" on Saturday morning, with loads of time for questions, and in the afternoon, Ed Rice promises us what he calls "Cheap Brain Stimulation" (as opposed to Deep Brain Stimulation!!). 90 minutes of absolutely fascinating and engrossing fun...

And in between, rest, eating, dancing, using the facilities of the hotel - it is close enough to the centre of town for those of us who get nervous too far from shopping!

For some, the weekend is all about reassurance - you see others tha are similar to you, some better, some worse, but the common thread in all of this is that most people cope and cope very well. If you are newly diagnosed you can draw comfort and strength from this, AND from the fact that you are almost guaranteed that by the time your Parkinson's has progressed a bit, there will be newer medications that will work better and with fewer side effects. We are all banking on that (unfortunate analogy in these NAMA days). The bottom line: there is a lot of hope out there now.
Very Happy

PAI is holding its next weekend away in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone on the weekend of February 26-28, 2010. Hugely popular, places will go fast! Phone 1 800 359 359 for a booking form. The next issue of the PAI magazine is due out shortly and a form will be included with that.

Update - speakers and programme confirmed (January 12 2010). Phone for a booking form - 1800 359 359. See later post below for the details, and/or download the booking form from www.parkinsons.ie!

I can't stress enough the difference having support - someone out there that understands what you are going through, just that alone - makes to your life.

I can't dance. but am hoping to learn!!
