James T and Carly are two of myfavourites going back to highschool and Heidis Record Player. Oh yes, way back.
Anyways, you know this song:
Katy, Beautiful Katy,
You are the only one that I adore
When the moonshines over the cowshed
I'll bewaiting for you at the kitchen door.
Not proper nowadays, but it was sung like the man waiting for his girl had a stutter so it went
K K Katy, B b Beautiful Katy.
You are the only o o one that I adore.
When the mmm moonshines over the cc cowshed
I'll be waiting for you at the k kk kitchen door.
My Dad sang that so many times to my daughter, named Katy, when she was a baby. We used to joke that when she started school she will tell the teacher that her name is KKK Katy. At my dentist office is a Lady named Katy. She is of an Irish family that settled in the area years ago. Very nice family and she is a very nice girl. Recently when I went for an appointment, and cause we always joke back and forth, I approached her at reception and started singing Katy , beautiful Katy, You are the only one ...and she joined in. That was as far as I was planning to go. But she started the next line and although I was puzzled a bit I kept singing with her. As we finished the last line I realized she had tears in her eyes. My eyes must have asked the question, because she then told me that her Dad used to sing that to her at least a couple times every day and no one had ever sung it to her since he had died when she was only 13. It was a good and special moment to remember with that 40 something Lady. It reminds me what power words can have with the people we share the world with. Power to teach, encourage, hurt, or in this case, invoke a sweet memory of her passed Father and the love he gave his little girl.
