From new member Grainne comes this message, which may help some of those with Parkinson's who are struggling with the emotional burden:

ACT Now Ireland, in association with the Parkinson's Association of Ireland, are holding workshops for those with Parkinson's and their loved ones in Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT). Research suggests that ACT helps people cope more effectively with the anxiety that can result from the diagnosis, and live more completely in the present, in the "here and now".

Details about the workshops:
Date: 1st workshop: Friday 17th and Saturday 18th of February
2nd workshop: Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of May
Time: 10:30 - 4:30 with plenty breaks and refreshments provided
Location; Carmichael House, North Brunswick Street, Dublin 7.
Cost: €10 contribution per person (to cover costs, and this may be waived at the discretion of the PAI)

For further information or to enrol please call Grainne at 087 7790670, or email gfleming@tcd.ie

Further information can also be found on the ACT Now Ireland website http://www.actnowireland.com/?page_id=542 and in the article published in the Parkinson's Association of Ireland Winter 2011 magazine http://parkinsons.ie/userfiles/file/MagazineWinter11.pdf
